The Seed quality control wing of this department ensures the timely availability of quality seeds to the farming community through monitoring and regulation of seed distribution by implementing various seed legislations viz., The Seeds Act 1966, The Seeds Rules 1968, The Seeds (Control) Order 1983 and The Environment (Protection) Act 1986. Quality Control Activities are carried out in the State by one Joint Director of Seed Inspection, 15 Deputy Director of Seed Inspection with a Jurisdiction of 2 to 3 districts each and 70 seed inspectors.

This wing has issued 12,343 seed selling licenses under the Seeds (Control) Order, 1983. These seed selling points are inspected by the seed Inspectors at least once in three months mandatorily and seed samples are drawn for quality check from the seed lots kept for sale. The samples are analyzed in the notified seed testing laboratories and either department or legal actions are initiated against the sub standard seed lots.
